Chocolate A Day™: Multivitamin in Sugar-Free Decadent Belgian Chocolate Review

Disclosure: I received the below product in exchange for my honest review. All opinions and experiences are our own and may differ from those of your own.

Chocolate A Day
Chocolate A Day™ Deluxe Multivitamin is a delicious Belgian chocolate that is boosted full of meaningful vitamins and minerals. Chocolate A Day™ is gluten, dairy, sugar, fillers, waxes, substitute oils and preservative free. The chocolate is a smooth, pure dark chocolate that is crafted from meticulously selected cocoa beans that are roasted to perfection.  While eating a piece or two of savory chocolate per day is more enjoyable then swallowing vitamin pills every day, your body will also be able to better dissolve and absorb the fat-soluble vitamins; A, D, E and K due to the rich cocoa butter. Lets not forget that chocolate also has natural antioxidants.

We had the joy of trying out a box of Chocolate A Day ($24.95ARV). I let Dan have these as I'm not a fan of dark chocolate, which is okay. He loves chocolate more then probably 95% of the women that I know so I was definitely excited to receive this box of chocolate that I knew he would love, but that would also be much more healthier for him. He works a labor intensive job so I knew the vitamin boost would be great for him in many ways. It's impossible to get him to take a vitamin pill and those usually tear up both of our stomach's from the sudden overload in iron and other vitamins in which we typically get enough of in a day. I was a little nervous at first that he wouldn't want to eat it because it's healthy and sugar free, but since he is the huge chocolate lover that he is there was no issue with trying them. Once he tried them I did remind him... only One A Day!

Dan says that the chocolate tasted like ordinary smooth dark chocolate and was good, he couldn't tell that it was boosted with vitamins or that it was free of the unnecessary ingredients. He's not a very descriptive person and is losing his sense of taste, but as we know dark chocolate has a pretty strong taste to it. At the time I didn't think about tasting the chocolate for myself in order to try and give a more descriptive explanation of the taste. Either way, he liked it and finished the whole box. He normally doesn't follow through on things such as taking anything pill form whether it be medications or supplements/vitamins. I didn't have to remind him and when I did ask him if he had one or two for the day he had always ate them before I asked. So if you're looking for a way to get your chocolate loving husband to take his daily multivitamin then I highly suggest Chocolate A Day™!

A huge plus for both Dan and I is that Chocolate A Day did not cause him any stomach upset as he would usually get from taking a multivitamin or other supplements.

One of the things that I really liked about Chocolate A Day™ is that it's dairy free and sugar free. Dan is lactose intolerant and lactose intolerance is a rather common intolerance as well as gluten, both of which are not in Chocolate A Day™. I also like that it does not contain coconut oil or anything of the sort, I know it's a healthy ingredient however, Dan as well as our three year old son are both allergic to coconut. It seems as though nearly everything healthy contains coconut oil as well as things that aren't so healthy.

I would much rather spend the $25 on this box of multivitamin chocolates from Chocolate A Day than a bottle of multivitamin pills that wouldn't be finished in full anyhow.

Great Kids Snacks - Day 3! Jedilynn chose Bitsy's Brainfood Organic Chocolate Beet Smart Cookies (Review)

Disclosure: We received a Great Kids Snacks box in exchange for our honest review of it's contents, all opinions and experiences are 100% our own and may differ from those of your own.

Day 3 - Jada's Pick! Bitsy's Brainfood - Organic Chocolate Beets Smart Cookies!

Jedilynn picked out the Bitsy's Brainfood - Organic Chocolate Beets Smart Cookies! I'm almost certain that she didn't fully understand/realize what they were or what was in them! There is NO way my daughter would eat anything with beets in it, let alone in the name! OR SO I THOUGHT ANYWAYS!

These Smart cookies are alphabet shaped and baked with REAL fruits & veggies! They are an excellent source of Omega-3 DHA + EPA as well as Vitamins A, B12, B6, D3 and Folic Acid. Bitsy's Brainfood Smart Cookies are also a great source of Calcium and Iron and have 8 grams of Whole Grains per serving. Not to mention they are non-GMO, kosher and made in a nut-free facility! This box of cookies also comes with collectible superfood stickers!

They are made in a nut-free facility, but Ezio still can't have them due to his egg allergy. I did allow for him to try two of the cookies though and he loved them, no allergic reaction thankfully, but I didn't want to push our good graces with these cookies.

Jedilynn absolutely loved these Organic Chocolate Beet Smart Cookies! I did NOT mention to her that they have beets in them nor did I explain/show her what beets are. She is not a healthy eater usually and is fairly picky... but she's an eight year old girl... that's pretty typical from what I hear and see. She loved that she was able to spell out Ezio's name with her cookies, but the silly girl didn't think to let me know so I could take a picture. Sometimes, kids (and heck even me as an adult) just need to be able to play with their food a little bit. As long as it is still edible and hasn't caused a huge mess... who cares!?

Jedilynn loved her cookies and in fact asked if we could buy MORE of them! I told her we would definitely take a look around at a couple natural food stores in our area and see if we could find them. According to Bitsy's Brainfood website they should be available at one of our local Whole Foods.

With Jedilynn in public school, where lunch really is not all that great, tasting, health wise, etc, etc having healthy snacks at home is just that much more important to me. Cade and Ezio are home with me all day/everyday so I'm able to better monitor what they are eating. I was very pleased that Jedilynn loved the Smart cookies and even wants more!

A third snack from the Great Kids Snack box that has won points from myself (mom), Jedilynn (8 years old) and Ezio (2 years old). While I did not taste them, I can simply give them a point off of two of my children loving them. So this makes a total of 5 points out of 30 in just 3 days of trying just 3 snacks! This is going great so far!

Again, don't forget to check back tomorrow and see what one of the kids chose to try next!

Discover Your Own Healthy Snacks!
Don't forget, you can subscribe and get your own Great Kids Snacks box here and have fun discovering new and healthy snacks that your child(ren) love!

What are your thoughts about the Bitsy's Brainfood - Organic Chocolate Beets Smart Cookies? Do you think your experience will be like mine (doubting your child will like them and then turns out they love them)? You might just be as surprised as I am!!

#rockyourblog Milk Chocolate is the BEST!

I love Milk Chocolate! Dark Chocolate just doesn't take right to me and white chocolate is gross and not even chocolate in the first place! White chocolate contains no cocoa, it should not have the name chocolate.

I love milk chocolate covered strawberries! Chocolate candy bars I am pretty picky about, I like Reese's, nearly all of the newer fancy kinds they have now as well as just some plain old delicious Hershey's chocolate candy bars. Jedilynn and I made homemade chocolate not too long ago with this neat little kit we received. It was true chocolate, not milk chocolate. Jedilynn, Dan and Cade loved it, I didn't care for it too much and Ezio, who is allergic to chocolate loved it and has some nice hives on himself. NO, we did not give him the chocolate, but rather he got himself eye level with the top of the counter and boy they sure do surprise us with how long their little arms are and how far back they can reach!

What is your favorite chocolate?

Time Out For Whoopie Delicious Review & Giveaway US 8/3

Time Out For Whoopie began in 2010 when Shannon entered a Whoopie Pie contest at the local fair in Vermont. She had never entered anything at the fair before, but there is a first for everything! Much to her surprise, she won the blue ribbon for her Pumpkin Whoopie Pie, which motivated her to enter again in 2011. She then won the yellow ribbon for her Chocolate Strawberry Whoopie Pie. In 2012 they changed their mandatory requirements that all contestants had to follow... they all had to use the same recipe for the Traditional Chocolate Whoopie Pie. Although Shannon felt this impeded on her creativity she still decided to enter and she won the red ribbon! This completed her collection! All of this helped her realize her love for baking and allowed her to be creative and experiment with new yummy creations. She has worked in the social work field for the past 14 years, but her most recent employer made a hard decision for her. She chose to take on the journey that fit better with her family life. She opened her own Whoopie Pie business and due to taking some time out of her career in the social working field she came up with the name "Time Out For Whoopie".

Traditional Whoopie Pies

Delicious Traditional Whoopie Pies are chocolate cakes with vanilla cream centers.
I think I had one or two of these and there are four, Cade absolutely loved them! These were his first Whoopie Pie's and if I would have let him they all would have been gone immediately. The cakes were soft and moist as well as the cream filling. Nothing was dried out and even after opening the little pouches and leaving them in the box over night they were still moist! Hard and dry cakes or cream is gross, so I was quite surprised when we woke up the next day and they were still moist! Awesome!

Maple Walnut Whoopie Pies
The Maple Walnut Whoopie Pies are made with maple flavored cakes with walnuts in them and the cream is a sweet maple cream. The maple used for these Whoopie Pies is made in Vermont and comes from Poor Farm Sugar Works in Colchester. These can be made with or without the walnuts in the cakes.

These were Ezio's treat as he is allergic to chocolate, this was his first Whoopie Pie and he loved it! He greatly enjoyed his 4 pack of mini Maple Walnut Whoopie Pies! I didn't try one of these as they were for him and Cade and I received 8 mini Whoopie Pies.

MMMMM!!!!

He was satisfied and kept pointing to the box of them for more so I had to hide them, out of sight out of mind. Even after all of the Whoopie Pies were gone Cade and Ezio both kept checking the box for more. In all honesty, I did as well. They were so delicious and gone too quick.

Time Out For Whoopie also offers gluten free Whoopie Pies by substituting for gluten free flour. There are cream filled, cream cheese filled and mousse filled Whoopie Pies in a variety of delicious flavors! Check out all of their flavors here.

Make Your Own Chocolate Kit!

The Glee Gum Make Your Own Chocolate Kit comes with everything you will need. You will find, organic cocoa butter, cocoa powder, confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar), starter crystals, temperature indicator, paper candy liners, instructions and the story of chocolate! The instructions with this kit are simple and make the process of mixing elements of chemistry with world culture and history so much fun! Each Make Your Own Chocolate Kit makes 8 oz of dark chocolate.

Jedilynn and I made our chocolate after she got home from school, which was fine as it doesn't take long to make! Most of the photos below are taken by Jedilynn, who is 7 year old, she really surprised me with some of the things she captured.

You will need a microwave safe bowl OR a double boiler on the stove. We do not have a double boiler so we made our chocolate in the microwave. The first step is to melt your cocoa butter, it will be a solid when you receive your kit. I broke our "bar" of cocoa butter up into six pieces to help it melt faster, below is our cocoa butter about half melted. The cocoa butter takes approximately three minutes to fully melt.

Next you add the cocoa powder and confectioner's sugar, stir till all lumps are gone. Then you heat again in the microwave for another 40 seconds, however, if your using a double boiler it will take an additional six minutes.

You then apply the temperature indicator about one inch from the bottom of your bowl or pot (if using double boiler. This is the longest process through out the whole chocolate making experience. You have to continuously stir the chocolate to help it cool, your goal is to get the temp down to 94 degrees.

It clearly states in the instructions that the temperature indicator is NOT broken, but after several minutes of stirring and stirring and the temperature of the chocolate not registering on the indicator I had to pull out my own kitchen thermometer.... It wasn't registering as the chocolate was above 100 degrees and the indicator strip only goes as high as 100 degrees.

So we continued to stir, Jedilynn and I taking turns. She by the way, did not make any mess, but when I opened up the cocoa powder I kind of got it all over the stove... Ooops!

Exciting!! It's registering the temperature on the temperature indicator strip!!! We're getting somewhere!

The temperature is dropping! 96 degrees is now in the green, remember our goal temperature is 94 degrees.

OOH!! It's almost green, okay maybe more so aqua blue, but were getting there!

We did it! My wrists didn't fully give out, as some of you may know I have really bad wrist. Thankfully this chocolate was not too thick/heavy for my wrists to stir. Our goal of 94 degrees is now GREEN!! Jedilynn was so eager to try the chocolate and lick the spatula, she was so excited we were almost done.

We then added the Starter Crystals. Jedilynn's awesome capture of me pouring in the Starter Crystals.

Once you've stirred in the Starter Crystals very well you are ready to pour your chocolate into the little candy liners! ALMOST DONE!! I some how dropped about half of the liners in the bowl of chocolate, but it's okay, I saved all but two! Oops again on my part! Goodness!

At this point you can experiment by adding fruits, nuts, other little candies, etc.

We made some of our chocolates into peanut butter cups. I didn't think about it until after we made some with the peanut butter, but if you were to put your peanut butter into the microwave for a few seconds (no more then 5-10 seconds at a time, take out, stir and place back in microwave for about 5-10 more seconds) then it would have been much easier to get the peanut butter into the liner! The peanut butter does really soften once it hits the chocolate, which is at about 94 degrees still.

After messing around for a bit with the peanut butter... because I didn't think to put it in the microwave for a few seconds.. I guess I just wanted to make our job more difficult. Anyhow, after adding the peanut butter to a few of them the chocolate really started to cool, which also caused the chocolate to start to harden so I just put it back in the microwave for about 5 seconds and it was perfectly smooth. Then we filled the rest of the liners with just chocolate.

We placed our filled liners in a shallow pie pan. This was much easier to transfer to the refrigerator then it would have been to move each one at a time. I also put them in the pie pan because when the chocolate is warm and melty, it is pretty heavy on the sides of the liner and super hard to move!

One you'd filled all of your liners or used up all of your chocolate then place your filled liners int he refrigerator for about 15 minutes or until they are firm. As you can tell in the above photo some had already started to harden.

While the chocolates were in the fridge cooling and hardening Jedilynn was finally able to like the spatula as she had wanted to almost the entire time we were making the chocolate.

She is my silly girl!

I got a half a bite of one of the 17 chocolates we made!! Only four or five of them had peanut butter in them, Jedilynn ate 2 or 3, Dan only got 1 and a friend of ours get another after we thought all the peanut butter filled ones were already eaten. These did NOT last long at all, Jada and Dan ate all of them minus the one half of a bite I got and the one our friend had.
