Beyond the Wood
Beyond the Wood was started by a wonderful lady who I had the opportunity to meet. She is a wife, mom and grandmother to three children and a dog and two grandchildren. After working as an office manager for sixteen years, she felt it was time for a change of life. She she decided to do what she has always loved; crafting, designing, decorating and organizing, which she started doing in August of 2014. Her family brainstormed for a name for her company and her son-in-law Nick came up with the name Beyond the Wood. It's fitting as she does work with wood, but her talent goes beyond just wood crafts.
She likes to create a mix of rustic with contemporary and loves combining the two. Her top material of choice is wood, because the possibilities are basically limitless. She enjoys adding other materials to create a perfect combination. Wood has a mind of it's own, so when looking for custom wooden pieces keep in mind that imperfections give character and will make your piece unique!
Our Beautiful Wooden Quote Signs!
I received the above two signs from Beyond the Wood. I was able to choose their colors, style and the quotes I wanted on the signs. The blue sign ($36ARV) is approximately 10" by 13" and has my second favorite Dr. Seuss quote - "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." However, the smaller green sign ($18ARV) to the right, which measures 5.5" by 8" has my all time favorite Dr. Seuss quote! "Why fit in when you were born to STAND OUT?". I love this quote so much I even have a vinyl wall decal of it!
These signs are made from scratch with new pine wood. It is sanded and stainer or painted how you like and each letter is hand painted. Tammy uses General Finishes paint line as well as Urban Roosters Chalk Paints. She does not use stencils. For the final finishing touches, she seals it for long lasting protection and finally the hanging hardware is attached. Since stencils are not used, these are quite time consuming, but as you can tell it's completely worth it in the end!

The signs are perfect and exactly what I was hoping for, if not better. The blue sign is hang-able and is put together very nicely. The green sign is perfect for setting on a table in your entrance hallway or front foyer or even on a dresser. Since my boys are still pretty young, I'll keep it in the living room for now.

I like having the blue one hanging on the wall in the living room, but I also like having them both sit on the "border" around the dinning room which also has a bunch of photos and awards of the kids'. I love having motivational quotes around for them to glance at and read, I also verbally say these quotes to them. Motivation is key in life and you can never start to young to get their motivation on the right track.
I love how durable and well crafted these two signs are. We can cherish them for a life time and I hope that one day when my children move out they will want to take one or both with them. My 9 year old asked me if she could take the green sign to her room. She is my little Punky Brewster, she loves to wear "odd" things and mismatched clothing. She definitely stands out and does so proudly, making me one proud mom.
