Guest Post: 9 Troubles You Can Treat with Ingredients Already in Your Cupboard

Disclosure: I have not been compensated for this post nor does it contain affiliate links.

Author: Whitney Hollingshead

Everyday life can present various discomforts and challenges. The next time you encounter the various symptoms of discomfort, you may want to turn to your spice cabinet or kitchen cabinet instead of your medicine cabinet. Many common discomforts can be treated naturally with ingredients that are already in your kitchen. Check out the list below to find natural solutions for many of your everyday physical troubles:

Nausea = Ginger
Several studies have shown that ginger can help to quell everyday nausea, as well as nausea tied to morning sickness in pregnant women. Just put a spoonful of honey in a small cup. Add a pinch of ground ginger and stir. Eat with a spoon. While the remedy should prove helpful in alleviating the symptoms of nausea, ginger should not be used to treat nausea for longer than a four day period.

Heartburn = Baking Soda
Baking soda contains sodium bicarbonate which makes baking soda an effective remedy for treating the symptoms of heartburn. The pancreas naturally produces sodium bicarbonate to aid in neutralizing stomach acid and baking soda is thought to perform the same function. For adults, mix ½ teaspoon of baking soda powder into water and drink every two hours as needed. For children, consult your doctor concerning the right amount.

Cough = Honey
A study published with the Natural Institute of Health reported that honey was more effective than common cough medicine at suppressing nighttime coughs in children with upper respiratory infections. Honey has also been shown to be an effective healing agent. The American Academy of Pediatrics also encourages using honey as a cough remedy, especially in children under the age of six. For adults or children over the age of one, try two teaspoons of honey. Never give honey to any child under the age of one for any reason.

Sore Throat = Salt
Perhaps your mother encouraged you to gargle with warm salt water as a child to ease your throat pain. The Mayo Clinic agrees that gargling with salt water is an effective remedy for your sore throat. Heat a glass of water until warm (not hot!) and stir in ½ teaspoon salt until dissolved. Gargle small amounts of the mixture. Keep in mind that children under the age of six are usually unable to gargle properly.

Dry Skin or Rash = Oats
Oats are proven to calm inflamed skin and can be used on all skin types, even super sensitive skin. Just fill a sock with whole oats and tie the open end in a knot. Drop the oat filled sock into warm bath water and soak the affected areas for 15-20 minutes.

Sunburn = Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar works as an antiseptic and cools the skin as it evaporates, making it a great remedy for sunburn relief. As explained here, in order to keep your skin from stinging, dilute the vinegar with water. Use the same amount of water as vinegar and apply to the sunburned area with a wet washcloth.

Bee Sting = Meat Tenderizer
One of the enzymes in the seasoning works against the toxic proteins which may reduce the body’s reaction. Just mix meat tenderizer with water to make a paste and gently apply the paste to cover the affected area.

Bug Bite = Basil
Basil contains eugenol, a chemical compound believed to relieve itchy skin. Boil ½ cup of water in the microwave and add 2 tablespoons of dry basil. Let cool completely. Dip a cotton ball in the mixture and gently apply to bug bite site. If you happen to have fresh basil leaves on hand, you can chop the leaves and place them directly on the affected skin.

Dandruff = Bay Leaves
The antibacterial properties in bay leaves are known to treat scalp skin plagued by dandruff. Simply boil 4 cups water and add a handful of dry crushed bay leaves. Allow the mixture to steep for 20 minutes. Strain the liquid and cool completely. Apply to scalp. You can wait up to one hour before rinsing.

Remember these helpful natural remedies the next time you encounter one of the common troubles listed above. Just remember that if any of the discomforts above is accompanied by additional symptoms, or if the symptoms persist, you should seek the advice of a medical professional.

Sugar Bowl Bakery - Petite Brownie Bites & Madeleines Review

Disclosure: We received the below products in exchange for our honest review, all opinions and experiences are 100% our own and may differ from those of your own.

Sugar Bowl Bakery started out as a small neighborhood coffee shop in San Francisco. It was bought in 1984 by five brothers who put their savings together to purchase Sugar Bowl Bakery. The Ly brothers made pastries from scratch with only the finest ingredients and sold them to the local community. They quickly became the bakery that everyone wanted to stop into for their desserts. Now, 27 years later, Sugar Bowl Bakery has nearly 120K sq. ft of state of the art production facilities which means that they have custom made ovens, mixers and robotic packaging lines that have been sourced from all over the world. This allows Sugar Bowl Bakery to deliver high quality desserts at affordable prices to grocery stores and warehouse clubs.

Petite Brownie Bites & Madeleines

Petite Brownie Bites are little bite sized pieces of chocolate heaven. The brownie bites are the perfect combination or slightly hardened/crisp outside and soft fresh baked inside. I honestly did not expect to bit into these brownie bites and have a soft delicious inside. When making brownies at home it is hard to achieve this perfect combination. Personally, I'm not big on chocolate, but I was not let down by these brownie bites. They would be perfect with a nice tall glass of ice cold milk or I'd even enjoy them with a short mug of hot cocoa now that winter is approaching. Their bite size makes them perfect for the kids to have one or two and it be the best sized brownie treat for them. Cade, Ezio and Jada enjoyed one to two brownie bites after dinners and such.

He sure was loving the Petite Brownie Bites from Sugar Bowl Bakery! Surprisingly I was able to make our brownie bites last about a week. I never would have thunk it! Treats and snacks are gone so fast in this house, however I'd give the kids one or two each and Dan and I would only have one or two every now and then. Everyone sure was sad when these were all gone. Even my mom who also isn't big on chocolate enjoyed her brownie bite.

The Madeleines we unbelievably delicious. Personally, the Madeleines were better then the brownies. I pretty much kept them to myself, but thankfully the rest of the family were more into the brownies, fine by me! So I had never had a Madeleine before, I was a bit hesitant to try one as I figured they were another cookie that was just going crumble all over the place. Oh was I SO wrong about that!! They barely made any amount of crumby mess! Sorry, but I have a serious issue with crumbs. These Madeleines were so soft and buttery delicious, it was like nothing I remember ever trying before, but seemed to fill the "sweet tooth" hole in my heart. Don't get me wrong, they are not sweet, just soft and fluffy buttery goodness. However, I've never really been big on sweets or baked goods.

Madeleines sort of remind me of shortbread cookies. I always let shortbread cookies just "melt" in my mouth and these are like that, but with out having to wait for the cookie to soft because it already is.

Needless to say, I have been searching all of my local retailers of Sugar Bowl Bakery in hopes of not only being able to buy more of these delicious baked goods, but I also actually want to try out other goodies from Sugar Bowl Bakery. Check and see what the nearest retailer to you is.

Best For My Pets - Bully Sticks Dog Chew Treats Review

Disclosure: We received Bully Sticks in exchange for our honest review. All opinions and experiences are our own and may differ from those of your own.

Bully Sticks are odor less, all natural 100% pure beef chew sticks. Bully Sticks help to clean your dogs teeth while also giving them a comforting thing to do - chew. Chewing comforts dogs, that is why puppies and some adult dogs chew things up while you're away at work, on vacation, etc. These treats are long-lasting, meaning your pup probably wont have the entire thing chewed and gone within 10 minutes, the flavor is also still there when your dog decides to come back to chew some more.

No chemicals, preservatives or additives means these Bully Sticks truly are 100% pure beef, natural and safe for your fur baby. But what part of the "beef" are these made from you may be wondering? I wondered the same. They are made of dried muscle meaning they are gluten-free and grain-free as well as being 100% digestible. Some fur babies do have issues with gluten and grains, my aunt's Cocker Spaniel has a gluten intolerance. Is your fur baby on a diet? No worries, this treat is low in fat and is a powerful source of protein.

Lucy (top) and Wilson loved their Bully Sticks! Caleb, an 80 pound pit/yellow lab mix was sleeping in a different room when we gave these to the littles. He did get his own the next day. While Lucy and Wilson laid on the bed and ate their Bully Sticks, my 2.5 year old son, my mom and myself enjoyed a cupcake. Not once did either of the dogs even leave their Bully Sticks to come beg or steal sniffs of the delicious cupcakes. It was rather nice to have a healthy treat for the dogs to enjoy and keep them busy while we enjoyed our not so healthy treat. They are truly great dogs and Lucy just had a litter of 4 puppies (Wilson is dad) and I feel better giving her a healthy treat packed with protein, which she needs to feed her puppies.

Just had to share a photo of their beautiful puppies! They are now 3 weeks old, still too young for anything other then mom's milk.

One of the things I LOVE most about Bully Sticks aside from the benefits I've already mentioned above is that they are also a QUIET treat! Also, they don't leave behind huge messes, so them eating Bully Sticks in the bed is fine, sure there may be some drool on the blanket or what not, but not shards of hard beef bones or slimy messes.

Bully Sticks are hands down the best treat I've ever gotten for the fur babies! Healthiest, least messy, etc, etc.
