Harvestland Purely All Natural Poultry & Pork

At Harvestland they know that it is important to bring fresh, wholesome food to your table. You can feel good about the food you serve your family with Harvestland brand because they believe that all families deserve to eat well. They have an appreciation for healthy, wholesome foods as food lovers themselves. They have longed for more natural choices and a more authentic connection to our food. However, they also understood the challenges of managing a family budget. Out of that desire, the HARVESTLAND® brand was born in the rich farmland of western Kentucky. They joined with select farm families who shared their vision. Together they abandoned the common practices of administering antibiotics to livestock and adding animal by-products to feed.

USDA

HARVESTLAND® has since grown to include no-antibiotics-ever chicken, turkey and pork. Their chicken is USDA-certified organic. While their operations are now in more states, they still work with select farm families who understand that respect for animals and the land goes hand-in-hand with healthy eating.

    Havestland All Natural Chicken Drumsticks
We received product coupons to purchase Harvestland products in order to conduct our honest review. We also received some recipe cards, a magnetic kitchen timer and copper measuring cups. We chose Harvestland All Natural Fresh Chicken Drumsticks.

Our local grocery store only carried or only had in stock a few Harvestland products. They had mainly these drumsticks, a couple packages of boneless skinless chicken breasts and a couple packages of ground chicken. Next time I am at the grocery store I will be checking the freezer section to see if I can find the grilled boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Those would be amazing for salads and/or quick chicken tacos.

With the drumsticks I made my own version of Harvestland's Easy Chicken and Brown Rice recipe. Click here for their recipe. It really is a simple recipe, perfect if you are new to making homemade meals from scratch or if you just don't have the time to make something that uses 20 different pots and pans. This recipe is a ONE skillet/pan job!

Here is my version of the Easy Chicken and White Rice.
All I had on hand was the drumsticks of course, sweet corn(would have been better with regular corn), white rice, olive oil, water, adobo and sazon. I seasoned my drumsticks with a mixture of sazon and adobo, making sure to rub the seasoning up and under the skin flaps. I heated up the olive oil while seasoning my drumsticks.  Then my pan was ready for them.

Such a beautiful color and amazing smell while these were cooking! I was very pleased that the bone marrow did not squirt out of these like other types of drumsticks I've bought and made. It just grosses me out and my daughter as well. So that was a huge plus! The drumsticks cooked up very nicely and I did not have any trouble fully cooking them. I'm a freak about chicken not being even the slightest pink except right along the bone. I removed one to cut it open and check the center color and it was perfect.

Since I didn't have green or red peppers, an onion or garlic, I skipped step 2 on Harvestland's recipe and jumped straight to the last task. For step 3, I realized that I didn't have any chicken broth!! Oh, no!! I had, cream of chicken, but no broth and I knew the cream of chicken would be too thick and give it a totally different taste and texture so I just opted to use water. After all we're doing step 3 in the same pan as step 1 so there is some flavor left in the pan from the chicken having been cooked. So, I added my water, sweet corn and rice. I made 2 cups of rice so I added 2 cups of water. Ezio loves rice so I figured I was better off making more rather then not having enough for him to mow down. After I had all of that in the pan and mixed up I sort of gently patted the rice to make a nice flat bed for the chicken and laid them on top.

Looks good doesn't it? Oh, you should have smelled it!! You let it all cook for about 12-15 minutes on medium-low heat. I let mine cook for 12 minutes as I had already fully cooked the chicken through and my rice was actually 5 minute rice, not 10 minute rice. The sweet corn was frozen and 12 minutes was enough time for that to thaw and warm up as well.

Now, time to enjoy! Like I said above, it would have been so much better had I had regular corn instead of the sweet corn. The chicken was amazing!

Look how JUICY it is! I took my chicken off the bone and cut it up into my rice. Jedilynn didn't have any of the rice, she wasn't a fan of the sweet corn either, but she did eat 4 drumsticks! Last time I made none organic drumsticks she didn't even want one. I guess these looked more appealing and also had better flavor. I was very excited that she chose to eat these drumsticks, she's never been big on meat, poultry, etc.

We were very pleased with these Harvestland All Natural Fresh Chicken Drumsticks. I would definitely buy them again! That's saying a lot seeing as how I've been "chicken" to try organic/all natural meats until now. I am very thankful for this opportunity from Harvestland to have done so. I honestly couldn't tell the difference by taste so much... like they say, "It tastes like Chicken!", but I could definitely tell in the way it cooked up, there were no gross trails of blood from veins or anything of that sort and that's what usually turns me off from eating drumsticks or any chicken on the bone.

Thank you so much to HARVESTLAND!!!!

Do you eat Organic/All Natural Fresh poultry and/or pork? Will you buy some to try?

    1. We don't currently eat organic poultry or pork, but I would probably buy some to try. I'm trying to clean up our diet, and I'm moving us more toward more organic and 'clean' foods. I'm becoming more educated on our food and where it comes from. Great post!

    2. Organic pork and chicken isn't common in my small town but I would consider purchasing it if wasn't too expensive. Just an FYI, ALL chicken has NO antibiotics as it's USDA rule. Also cage-free could mean they are confined to a small room but not in a cage.

    3. That chicken looks wonderful all cooked up for the dinner table.

I try to buy organic when I am able. Sometimes it is the cost (to feed a family of 6 with me as the only 'girl') which holds me back, but also some stores offer a limited selection. Chicken is fairly common here, but organic pork is not.

    4. I try to buy organic meat when I can but it’s fairly expensive. This recipe looks delicious and something that my kids would love to eat. Drumsticks are their favorite piece of chicken to eat.

    5. I don't really pay much attention to if the meat is organic or not. I normally go for what has more for less, because I gotta feed 5 mouths on a small budget. But I've also never heard of this brand, I will have to look it up to see if I can find any around here.

    6. I always think that meat that has been treated well, tastes whole lot better than the alternative - I will have to keep a look out for this brand :)

    7. I've never tried Harvestland-- not sure if our grocery sells that even, but I'll keep my eye out. I agree that meat that has been treated properly tastes better! Although I typically don't care if it's organic or not. I usually go by price.

    8. Omg another organic chicken company!!! Things like this make me so happy!! I try and eat as organic as possible and sometimes it can be tricky where I live with no whole foods or trader joes.... So I love seeing more brands!!! Hopefully they will spread to my neck of the woods!

    9. We'd love to try to eat more natural and organic foods but we are definitely concerned by the cost, living here in NYC. Chicken Is often prepared in out home, so it would be nice to know we were consuming a healthier option.
