Guest Post: 25 Fun Ways to Get Your Kids Out of the House This Spring!

25 Fun Ways to Get Your Kids Out of the House This Spring!
Author: Alyssa Craig

Spring has sprung and it's time to get your kids out of the house. Encourage your kids of explore the great outdoors with some of these great activities.

1. Plant a Garden
Now is the time to get started on planting flowers as well as fruits and vegetables. Help your kids start a garden of their own and then watch the kids grow with pride.

2. Picnic in the Park
Pack a healthy lunch or snack and set off for some fun time in the park! Enjoy the sun on your faces and enjoy some munchies before it gets too hot.

3. Go for a Run
Take advantage of the perfect running weather and hit the pavement with your kids. A quick family jog around the block will get everyone's blood flowing and get them warmed up for some more fun!

4. Play Softball
Get the mitts out and invite all the neighbor kids to the nearest park to play a little softball. The more, the merrier!

5. Bike Riding
There is nothing quite like the wind in your hair as you and your buddies take the neighborhood by storm on your bikes. Safety first though! Don't forget the helmets.

6. Visit a Farm/Petting Zoo
Find a farm or petting zoo near you where you can see and interact with animals. Spring also means there should be a lot for baby animals for the kids to see and hold.

7. Soccer
Spring is a big part of soccer season, so get the cleats out and get the kids playing a pick up game.

8. Hiking
Take your family up to the mountains, hills or a good trail to enjoy the fresh air.

9. Fly a Kite
Head to the park or just an open area and let the kids learn how to fly kites. You can even have a craft day and help the kids make their own.

10. Puddle Jumping
Spring showers don't have to keep the kids inside. Let them dress in clothes they can get dirty and then go puddle jumping in the rain.

11. Create Sidewalk Chalk Murals
Sweep the driveway and give your kids some sidewalk chalk. Encourage them to work together to create a large mural that tells a fun new story.

12. Feed the Ducks
Save up some old bread and then take it to a pond and feed the ducks. This is an activity even the little ones can participate in and enjoy.

13. Shoot Hoops
Get out the basketball and let the kids shoot some hoops. If you don't have a hoop in your driveway, now is a great time to add one to your property. Check out the variety of hoop options here

14. Skip Stones
If you have a pond or lake nearby, take the kids out and teach them how to skip stones. It can take a while to get the hang of it, so this can provide hours of entertainment.

15. Build a Fort Outside
The kids might be used to building forts with couches and chairs available, so give them a new challenge and let them build their fort in the backyard! It may even become their new hangout spot as summer approaches.

16. Go to a Baseball Game
Spring training and many games provide for that perfect, all American experience of going to a game with your kids. Don't forget to get a hot dog!

17. Tie-Dye T-Shirts
This will be a fun activity your kids can show off for a while! Buy some white t-shirts and a tie-dye kit and then help your kids pick their colors. This is best done outside where you can make a mess.

18. Make a Bird Feeder
Let your kids make their own bird feeder and then do bird watching after putting it up. They can learn about birds in the area and see how many birds they can learn to identify.

19. Outdoor Scavenger Hunt
Make a list of things that could be in your backyard (or neighborhood for older children) and then let them go on a scavenger hunt to find all of these things. They can either bring them back or simply take a picture to prove they found the items.

20. Mini Golfing
Miniature golfing is a fun family activity that your kids will love. This may work best for kids elementary school aged and older.

21. Play Catch
Whether they use a football, or a baseball and mitt, encourage your kids to play catch and improve their throwing and catching skills.

22. Head to the Beach or Mountains and Explore
Choose a fun location close to you and then go with no agenda. Let the kids explore and see what they discover in their new surroundings.

23. Start a Collection
Rocks, leaves, and other outdoor items may be something neat they can start collecting. Be wary of letting bugs in the house!

24. Driveway Hockey
For older kids, encourage them to get out their roller blades to play a game of driveway hockey.

25. Jump Rope
From rhymes about Cinderella to mastering the double dutch, jumping rope is a great for of exercise and entertainment for boys and girls of all ages.

With all the fun things to do outside, your kids should have no problem jumping right in. You may actually end up having a hard time getting them inside for dinner!

What is your favorite Spring activity? Looking forward to doing anything in particular?

How We Stay Fit All Around The World with Little Passports!

All around the world, people are ushering in their fitness goals as well as personal goals to make 2014 great. We have a blog post with some fun information about sports from around the world for you to share with your readers who might be looking for something new to try this week. Use this easy copy and paste post today, your affiliate links are embedded! If there is too much information here, feel free to only choose a few or write about your favorite sports and include a Little Passports text link.

How We Stay Fit All Around The World with Little Passports
January is the time of year when people all over the world make resolutions, and that’s exactly what Sofia and Sam of Little Passports are doing! This year they are promising to be more active. Join us as we travel the world discovering new sports and activities that will make you want to move around every day.

Australia
The majority of Australia’s population lives near the coast, so guess what sport is popular in this country? Surfing! Australia’s surfing culture is inspired by the surrounding waters. They enjoy the Southern Ocean in the South, the Indian Ocean in the West, the Pacific Ocean in the East, as well as the Timor, Tasman, Coral and other seas. Australian children learn early on how to respect the water and look for any dangers. Their beautiful beaches and big waves are a surfer’s paradise!

China
All you need is a net, a table, a small white ball, and two paddles to try one of China’s favorite sports: ping-pong (also called table tennis). China has one of the highest ranked players in the world and won many gold medals in table tennis at the 2012 London Olympics. Nearly 300 million people play this fun sport in China – that’s almost as many people as the entire US population! The game is fast, competitive, and takes lots of coordination. You can start out playing on your kitchen table (but please ask your mom or dad first).

Brazil
Brazilians go nuts for one sport in particular: football. Sam and Sofia have told you a little bit about this before. We even have a football game on our website! If you remember, this isn’t the kind of football that requires helmets and pads. All you really need to play is your foot and a ball. Sound familiar to you? You bet it does! We call it “soccer” in the United States. Brazil’s national football team is the most successful in the world, and they are scheduled to host the 2014 World Cup, football’s biggest tournament. Wouldn’t it be fun to visit Brazil during the World Cup?

India
Have you ever heard of cricket? No, not the loud bug! We’re talking about India’s favorite sport. Cricket was brought to India by the British, and it is still very popular in both countries. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game that requires players to bat, score runs, hit sticks called “wickets,” and get the opposing player out. The teams take turns called “innings,” but cricket games have been known to go on for days! Children in India love to play cricket on the street, the park, the beach, or the school playground.

Canada
Ice hockey is the national sport of Canada. As its name implies, it’s a sport that’s played on ice. The game involves two teams of six active players each, who use a hockey stick to shoot a puck across the ice while trying to score a goal. The puck is similar to a ball but is flat on the bottom to help it smoothly glide across the ice. Every player has to have balance, coordination, and know how to ice skate very well. Although it is most popular in colder climates like Canada, ice hockey is now played all over the world. It is played here in the United States from Los Angeles to Chicago, and even in sunny Florida! Do you have an ice hockey team in your town? Or perhaps an ice skating rink nearby where YOU can learn to skate?

Sam and Sofia are ready to try all of these new sports! Which one would you like to try? Bring Little Passports into your child's life in 2014 to teach them about all of the fascinating cultures around the world!

Zike Z100 Scooter Review

Zikee LLC is a revolutionary company that has a passion for creating the next generation of revolutionary human powered products! They have combined an innovative new scooter and bicycle creating their freestyle hybrid scooters. Their scooters are unlike any others on the whole planet. They hope to make a positive difference in people's lives by combining fun and fitness as well as environmentally friendly transportation. As you may know mainstream bikes have basically been the same for over 100 years, but with 27 patents pending, Zike has pioneered a radical rethink of these bikes.

Zike Z100

Zike Z100 Scooter ($249ARV) is recommended for children from the ages of 5 through 8 and supports up to 150lbs. It has a rugged steel frame and aluminum alloy wheels. This scooter has matching color wheels that are air-filled, rubber grip handles for comfort and textured grips and reflectors on the pedals.

We received our Zike Z100 just before Jedilynn was to arrive home from school and both of the boys were napping. I thought I'd use my time wisely and put the scooter together, alone! I sure was wrong about that. Kittens are very nosy and had to check it out. I honestly often times think it is easier to get things built or do other things such as seem with toddlers then it is with kittens! I manage to get it all put together with the "help" of the kittens and the muscles help from Dan all in time before Jedilynn arrived home. She was ecstatic when she seen the Z100, she did not know we were getting one so she was caught completely off guard by this awesome new scooter!

Jedilynn will be 8 years old this January and the Z100 is the perfect size for her. While she is not obese, exercise is still important for her as well as all children! You can really only ride a mainstream bike so often during the warmer months as a child, it can become boring after a little while which is why I wanted to get the Zike Z100 freestyle hybrid scooter for her. She was a little nervous when she first tried it out, but we called her uncle who is 16 years old, but still within the 150lb weight limit for the scooter. He also liked using the Z100 and showed Jedilynn how to "work" it and make it go. At first I held onto the handle bar as she pumped the pedals, to help keep her upright. She started to get the hang of it and I'm sure if we were not in freezing weather in Wisconsin she would have rode the scooter til dinner time! Unfortunately she was only able to give the scooter a try that one day as the temperatures increasingly dropped and now we have snow and another 6.6" on the way!

She has already made plans for when the snow melts for what family members house she could take the scooter to and when she can ride the scooter at home as well. I'm excited for the snow to melt so she can ride this and gain better balance. While riding a bike children are often more comfortable and have a slightly easier time of balancing, but she rides "regular" scooters just fine and I know it will only take a few more times for her to be able to feel confident in her ability to ride the Z100 Scooter.

Zike has a wide range of innovative freestyle hybrid scooters available on their website. They accommodate children all the way through adult. So be sure to stop by and take a look around, plus some of their scooters are even on sale right now!

Aurrorae Yoga Cropped Pants Review & Classic Yoga Mat Giveaway! US 7/10-7/17

logo
Aurorae Yoga was founded by Dennis Ingui because of the passion he developed for yoga over the past ten years. He is a cancer survivor since 2001 and needed an outlet in life to help build his body as well as he has developed inner peace of mind. Yoga has helped him to accomplish both of these goals while also making many new friends and energizing him with a positive and balanced attitude towards life. He is not an instructor nor is he a yogi, but rather a dedicated student who has enriched his life through yoga and understanding what a regular everyday student needs in their yoga practice.

Aurorae Ladies Cropped Yoga Pants

The Aurorae Ladies Cropped Yoga/Running Pants are Eco-Friendly, breathable, have a four way stretch mesh as well as flat lock seams, making them great for yoga, running, pilates, exercise and fashion. These cropped pants are made in the USA. The flat lock seams are soft and on the outside so you will not experience skin irritation. These pants are made of 80% Galaxy Nylon and 20% Spandex, great flexibility, light weight and machine washable.

I love my Aurorae Cropped Yoga Pants, they are great for every day wear, including running around chasing after my two toddlers! In the hot summer months it seems like no matter what type of material my capris are made out of, I'm always sweaty and gross feeling just from chasing after my boys. With these pants I can honestly say I sweat a ton less as they are breathable and I even have days where I would normally be sweaty, but am not. I've always sweat a lot, ever since I was a little kid, so it's nothing new, but still bothersome. Who likes to be all sweaty? No I! As I have some baby weight I still need to lose and these yoga pants being so form fitting, I really don't feel comfortable posting a photo of them on myself. This does not mean that I only wear them in the house, I also wear them to run errands, but not comfortable enough to post a photo online. So here are some photos from Aurorae in action.

I can only dream of being able to do as in the above photo. Aside from wearing these to chase around the boys and run errands, I will be wearing these when I start my work out routine again. Summers are very busy and little time in the house as I like to allow the boys to play outside as much as possible! Exercise and fresh air are amazing for everyone of all ages and boy do my boys love exercise. Not sure that they realize it is exercise, but they are constantly on the move so momma has to be as well!

Aurorae offers yoga mats in illuminating colors, a focal point icon and extra long in length. Aurorae offers the best reviewed yoga mats, accessories & props online. You can browse their yoga mats, yoga bags, yoga accessories and yoga props here.
