Disclosure: I have received the below item in exchange for my honest review. All opinions and experiences are my own and may differ from those of your own.

Brother MFC-J415W Printer Ink Cartridges and Ink

I received refillable and compatible ink cartridges as well as 120ml of ink in black, cyan, magenta and yellow. The 120ml refillable bulk ink kit ($35.50ARV) include the four bottles of ink and the 4 syringes and needles for refilling your cartridges. The refillable cartridges ($18.95ARV) are different from printer to printer, prices vary as well. Please note these prices are for the products I received for my Brother MFC-J415W printer and do vary from brand to brand as well as printer to printer. All in all, still one heck of a deal!

Filling up these ink cartridges was super simple and surprisingly not messy at all. Dan works on a printing press and comes home covered in ink almost nightly. So I did brag a little about my much less messy refilling or rather filling of these cartridges. InkOwl sends a copy of their filling directions along with photos, these directions are very simple to follow!

I think it only took me about 15 minutes or so to open all four bottles of ink and fill all four cartridges. Quick and easy. Oh and the directions also tell you how much ink your cartridges can hold so you don't accidentally over fill them, now that would probably cause a mess. The syringes InkOwl sends for filling the cartridges are basically liquid medicine syringes with needles that fit nicely into the fill hole on the cartridges. Be careful not to poke yourself. For my printer, the black cartridge holds approximately 28ml of ink while the three color cartridges hold approximately 18ml of ink, each. If you lose or misplace your instruction sheet with this ink on it down the road, no worries, just visit their website, find your cartridges and the product information will tell you how much ink yours can hold.

All four ink cartridges are full and ready to be loaded into the printer. Some brands and models of printers may not register these refillable cartridges, but they are see through so if you feel they may be getting low you can pop them out of your printer and simply look at them to see their ink levels. Thankfully this Brother printer that I have does register the ink levels.

I put all four ink cartridges in my printer and it immediately read them, some printers may take a minute or like mentioned above, not read them at all. The cartridges are nicely color coated in many places so there will not be any mixing them up.

I print a lot of coupons so it's important for me to have a good printer that will be able to print the bar codes nicely. I haven't had any issue with coupons printed via this printer before or after using the InkOwl refillable cartridges and ink. It prints very nicely and just like it would if you spent at least double the money and bought ink cartridges or toner from the manufacturer through your local retailer.

I also print a lot of sewing patterns and come have color coded lines for various sizes, this prints those lines very nicely and it's simple for me to cut out the specific size I need. Another thing I print often are worksheets, coloring sheets, etc. for the kids. They also print perfectly!

My camera is terrible so my photos of the printed items do not do the ink or printer justice, but I wanted show photos of printed examples. The pictures of the kids, the one on the left is the image I printed and the image on the right is the printed copy of the image. The one above it is just something I seen on Facebook while working on this review and printed it to test out the printer.

Lastly, how much does this InkOwl refillable ink kit save me?!
This is a screen shot of the ink I need for my Brother MFC-J415W from a retailer. Just for color ink it is $32.29 and for a single black ink cartridge it is $26.99! That is a total of $59.28 and none of these cartridges are refillable nor do they come with additional ink to refill them time and time again!! At that point I might as well just buy a new cheaper printer right?! WRONG! INKOWL! For the kit I received, it's a total of $54.45 however, if I do the math... I can refill my black cartridge a total of 4 full times and once approximately half ways (that would be $121.45 for four cartridges from Brother) and for the color cartridges, I can refill them approximately 6 times each (that would be $226.03 for seven of the Brother cartridges). A total of $347.48 to buy the Brother ink cartridges and only $54.45 for the refillable ink kit from InkOwl. So InkOwl is definitely saving me money! With InkOwl I save a total of $293.03 to be exact! (These prices do not include tax, shipping, etc.). And yes, InkOwl cartridges are the same size as your printer manufacturer cartridges.

  2. Refilling my ink sounds like a better more cost effective way of buying my ink,so many times we waited on getting more cartridges because we just couldn't afford to replace them at the time.

  8. This would be awesome! I print a lot of coupons myself. The comparison between the 2 pictures was amazing! This would really help me from having to go to the store all the time. I have to buy a new cartridge every time because I can't get them refilled in my town. This would really be cool to try!

  30. Hi! I'm a photographer/painter and it's really important to me that the ink quality is as good as the OEM. Can you provide a little bit of context on how Ink Owl Ink compares? I think this is an extremely cost effective way to buy ink since there is a huge rise in the prices of ink these days.. Can anyone give me some insight on the quality of prints they are receiving compared to the original Epson cartridges?

    1. Hi Paul,
While I wish I could personally answer this question for you, I can not. However if you go to Ink Owl's website they do have some testimonials from photographers, one of which does use Epson- http://www.inkowl.com/index.php?p=testimonial. I hope this helps.
