K5 Learning Online Reading and Math Program Review

Disclosure: I received a free trial of K5Learning in exchange for my honest review. All opinions and experiences are 100% our own and may differ from those of your own.

K5 Learning was created by parents who wanted better learning tools available to their kids for home use. The best software was marketed to schools, not parents. But in 2010 K5 Learning licensed the very best reading and math software, used in hundreds of schools, from leading U.S. education companies. K5 Learning is formed from the combination of this award winning software.

While there are many game based websites that entertain, they have a limited educational value and do little to develop study skills. Many of these educational websites have quality activities, but lack the breadth and depth of content and structure. Workbooks and traditional study materials require far more parental time (finding materials, choosing lessons, reviewing work) and can be dry and tedious for young children. Also, one on one tutoring can be expensive, inconvenient and dependent on the quality of the individual tutor.

K5 Learning was designed to be a practical solution for busy families who take education seriously.

K5 Learning offers a 14 day FREE trial! No credit card required to sign-up for this free trial, you don't get booted into an automatic subscription. At the end of your free trial you can sign up or walk away, no forms to fill out (unless you subscribe), no one to call, no cancellation, etc. Hassle free and no worries of forgetting to cancel in time!

Subscription fee is fairly low cost at $25 per month or $199 per year for the first child, if you wish to add additional children to the subscription it is an additional $15 per month or $129 per year per additional student. This pricing is less then a single hour with a live tutor. Personally, I'm pretty sure my children learned and retained more information just from a single 30 minute session of K5 Learning then they would have from an hour with a live tutor. This subscription includes unrestricted access to all grade levels in K5 Reading, K5 Math, K5 Math Facts and K5 Spelling. Plus, K5 Learning offers free worksheets and PDF file workbooks that you can download and print, but the workbooks are at a low additional cost.

All three of the kids absolutely love K5 Learning! Jedilynn was the first to try it out. We worked on Spelling with her as she has some difficulties with spelling. I was never very good at spelling either, but math on the other hand we both can do fairly easily.

Jedilynn is now in 3rd grade. In the photo above her word to spell was "picture", she spelled it 'picsher'. K5 Learning let her know she spelled the word incorrectly and showed her how to spelling it correctly, Jedilynn then had the option to practice or move onto the next word. On her own she decided to practice each word that she had spelled incorrectly. Even with having gotten several words incorrect she didn't get irritated and didn't want to quit. She continued on to the next word and even wanted to "play" another round of spelling.

Ezio is 2.5 years old and has a speech delay, he currently does not recognize letters or numbers. Cade is 4 years old and has started his first year of Kindergarten, he as well has a speech delay and can recognize some letters. Jedilynn was so advanced compared to the boys and she didn't have a speech delay. She was able to do so much more then the boys are, but it seems as though girls are often ahead of the curve from boys. Anyhow, they both loved sitting on my lap and working on reading and math activities in the K5 Learning program. We sat at the desktop since it is touch screen and would be easier for them rather then trying to also teach them how to use the touch pad on my laptop.

While working on reading on Cade's profile, I noticed that they focused a lot on the letters in his name which is great! He recognizes the letters in his name and also recognizes the beginning letters of Ezio and Jedilynn's names as well. Repetition is great for young minds and teaching them things.

Everyday when Jedilynn and Cade arrive home from school, Jedilynn would sit down at the desktop and working on various activities with both of the boys. I would be surprised if she doesn't grow up and become a teacher. Even before signing up for K5 Learning's free trial she loved to use flash cards and such to teach the boys letters and numbers, etc. They definitely learn more from Jedilynn then they do from me, for some reason they just do not pay attention to anything I try to teach them. They are however, very responsive to her teaching them various things.

While it's the beginning of the year still and this may change as the years go by, Cade is only receiving 3 sheets of homework each week and he either does them all in one day or I can get him to only do one worksheet and save the rest for another day in the week if I have him do a couple session of K5 Learning.

K5 Learning has my approval as well as my childrens' approval. My 2.5 year old, 4 year old and even my 8 year old all love to participate with the K5 Learning program. They are all benefiting from the program.

  15. What a great program! Although I have to admit that at this age, I try to find programs that limit my son being in front of the computer, but seems really positive though!
