Magformers Inspire Design Set

We received the Magformers Inspire Design Set ($99ARV), which comes with 62 pieces. The Inspire Design set comes with designer shapes - trapezoid, isosceles triangles and diamonds as well as basic shapes like the triangle and square. There are so many different things in which you can build with these shapes. In addition to the ideas booklet that comes with the set, you can also download additional idea booklets online.

What they like to build.
I gave this set to my five year old for his birthday. He loves to make houses, robots, dragons, etc. It's amazing the things he imagines and makes with his Magformers. I had several photos of various things he had built with his Magformers and now those photos seem to be missing. I will take photos of the next couple things he builds and upload them. My 9 year old also loves to build with the Magformers as well as my 3.5 year old. They all build different and awesome things. I can't wait to get more Magformers so that that are more to go around, when you have three kiddos playing with this set, those 62 pieces really don't seem like a whole lot of pieces.

Safe
While yes, Magformers are magnets, my 3.5 year old has been playing with them with no problems. Unlike other magnetic toys these are too big to fit in a mouth let alone swallow, I'm not saying allow your small child to chew on them, but I've had no issues.

Educational
All three of my kiddos love to line up the magnets on the floor and take one magnet and hover it over the others so it'll pick them up. It's learning about magnetic fields, discovery and fun all in one toy/building set! Heck, even I have done this since receiving this set. I remember my grandpa always had a magnet with him and I'd always play with it. I don't think we really had many magnet toys back then. He was a scrap and can collector so he was never without a magnet in his pocket. I'd always bring him things to see if it would stick to his magnet. It's wonderful that now a days kids can safely play with magnetic toys themselves, thanks to Magformers. I love that they are learning about north pole and south pole (the opposite ends of the magnet), they are also discovering how the magnetic field works and how opposite poles attract and like poles repel. The force of a magnet is astounding to a child.

Durable
Oh and another thing, some of you may already know and remember, but my children aren't very gentle with their toys. They have decided it would be fun to toss the Magformers off of the top bunk to someone standing on the floor to see if the magnets would connect in mid-air. Some do, but others smash to the ground... I'm not sure which they are more enthralled by... but, we don't have a single broken or cracked Magformer... yet! With two boys who are so close in age and a mischievous daughter, this is pretty normal play for them. They don't sit for long at all, which is why they are also grazers.

Magformers receive a huge five stars from us! We absolutely love the Magformers and will definitely be purchasing more.

  7. These sound like they are really durable and fun to play with. My grandchildren are really rough on their toys too and would love these. This is so weird but my husband always has a magnet with him too because he is always collecting scrap metal and cans. They call him Junkin Johnny.

  9. My 4-1/2 year old granddaughter hasn't played with any magnetic toys yet. These Magformers can teach her shapes and the properties of magnetics. I can see her having hours of fun building houses, castles and animals.
